It has been exactly 60 years since the introduction of the first Rolex Day-Date, in 1956. To celebrate this momentous occasion of such a well respect watch, there will be a dedicated Rolex Day-Date 40 exhibition at one of the largest retailers in The Netherlands, Schaap -/- Citroen.
In the last 60 years, the Day-Date has undergone some changes, but for the majority it has remained familiar and true to its original. Today’s Rolex Day-Date 40 (introduced in 2015) is a distinct copy for the very first Day-Date, and a clear example of Rolex’s dedication to its history and heritage. For many, the Day-Date is the epitome of quality and the desired crown jewel of their collection.
The exhibition is dedicated to paying homage to the iconic Day-Date and a clear opportunity for consumers and collectors get together and talk about all things Day-Date. The 60th anniversary watch reference 228235, is Rolex’s acknowledgement of the Day-Date series history and prestige. It also is part reason why Rolex and Schaap -/- Citroen are putting the spotlight on this iconic watch once more with a dedicated Rolex Day-Date 40 exhibition in The Hague.
Amongst the exhibition, a large ‘Rolex Day-Date’ wall has been placed inside the boutique in The Hague with a lot of details and explanation around this icon. It includes a lot of history, using old advertisements for example, images and two interactive boards used to check out all details about the Day-Date collection, from dial configurations to close up shots of the caliber 3255 movement.
Asides from the Rolex Day-Date interactive wall, the rest of the exhibition is dressed to the hill with all things Rolex. The boutique normally has a large Rolex corner, but has now taken out the entire boutique with watches and accessories. Most Rolex Day-Date 40 and some 36mm models were present in the collection and some were available for purchase. Not all dial configurations were available, but there were several to peruse and an overview of all dials was at hand.
Schaap -/- Citroen invited some of their Rolex clientele for an evening of champagne and Rolex’s’ as well as some Dutch press and online bloggers. The boutique also provided live music, catering and lots of bubbles to accompany a night of fine Swiss watches.
The Rolex Day-Date 40 Exhibition is open until 12th December.
